Extreme Heat

Cooling Centers

Extreme heat is forecasted for Wheeler County over the next week. Remember to stay cool and hydrated. Please, schedule outdoor activities for cooler morning and evening hours.

Wheeler High School

Starting Friday, June 25th, Wheeler High School, located at 600 B Street in Fossil, will be open as a Cooling Shelter. There are chairs in the hallways for people to come, sit, and get cooled off. Please, do not enter rooms with the doors closed as those floors are being refinished.

There is a water bottle filling station in the hall near the gym. Please feel free to enjoy the air conditioned high school during this heat wave.

Spray High School

Starting Sunday, June 27, Spray High School will be opening its doors as a community Cooling Shelter during the heat wave. The gym will be open from 11:00 AM - 8:00 PM through Monday, June 28th.

Starting Tuesday, June 29th, the cafeteria will be opened from 11:00 AM - 8:00 PM.
