Prepare, Respond and Stay Informed

Health Alert Network

Emergency Preparedness and Response is one of the seven foundational capabilities described in the Oregon Public Health Modernization Manual. The foundational capabilities are needed for governmental public health to meet its charge to improve the health of everyone in Oregon. The vision for this foundational capability is as follows: A healthy community is a resilient community that is prepared and able to respond to and recover from public health threats and emergencies

Health Alert Network (HAN) is CDC’s primary method of sharing cleared information about urgent public health incidents with public information officers; federal, state, territorial, tribal, and local public health practitioners; clinicians; and public health laboratories.

HAN provides continuous, high-speed electronic access to public health information including the capacity for broadcasting information to registered partners in an emergency, 24/7.

Types of Emergencies

Local Emergency Preparedness Programs are designed to prevent, protect, mitigate, respond to, and recover from emergencies with Public Health impacts relevant to Oregon.

Many of these emergencies include:

  • COVID-19
  • Flu Prevention
  • Recreational Advisories
  • Wildfire and Smoke
  • Windstorms
